Frequently Asked Questions
Q1: What age groups do you serve?
A: Our programs are designed for students in grades 3 through 12. We divide participants into three age-appropriate groups:
Grades 3–6 (Lower Elementary)
Grades 7–9 (Middle School)
Grades 10–12 (High School)
Each group follows the same cultural theme, with activities and language adjusted to match their developmental and cognitive level.
Q2: Does my child need any prior knowledge of Korean?
A: No prior knowledge is required! Our curriculum is designed for beginners, but also accommodates heritage learners. We structure each class to meet students where they are—whether they are learning Korean for the first time or reconnecting with their roots.
Q3: What will my child learn in this program?
A: Students will:
Learn Korean greetings, phrases, and everyday vocabulary
Explore cultural topics like Korean family dynamics, cuisine, music, and holidays
Engage in hands-on projects like crafting Korean lunchboxes, creating restaurant menus, or decoding K-pop lyrics
Develop speaking and listening skills in both individual and group activities
Q4: How are classes structured?
A: Each session is built around an immersive theme (e.g., "Let’s Eat!" or "Explore Through Music"). Lessons include a mix of:
Group activities and games
Short instructional segments
Hands-on projects and crafts
Cultural storytelling and video
Pair or team-based Korean conversation
Q5: What language is class conducted in?
A: Most instructions are in English to ensure clarity, but Korean is embedded throughout the class in phrases, songs, games, and speaking activities. Our goal is to build Korean language confidence in a fun and natural way.
Q6: Who are the instructors?
A: Our instructors are:
Bilingual educators with real classroom and curriculum development experience
Graduates of institutions like Harvard, NYU, Brown, and FIT
Trained to adapt their methods to different learning styles and age groups
Passionate about nurturing identity and creativity through cultural connection
Q7: What makes your classes different?
A:
We prioritize creative expression over memorization
Sessions are interactive and age-appropriate, not lecture-based
Students explore language through food, music, design, and storytelling
Our program blends fun, fluency, and identity-building
Q8: What if my child is shy or hesitant to speak?
A: That’s okay! Our instructors specialize in creating warm, low-pressure environments. Activities are structured to gently encourage participation, and students are never put on the spot. We celebrate progress—not perfection.
Q9: Do parents participate?
A: Classes are drop-off only, but we occasionally send home simple cultural activities or projects you can do together. We also share photos and updates, so you can stay connected to what your child is learning.
Q10: Where are classes held?
A: Classes take place at ESAE House in Manhattan (255 5th Ave, NYC). Directions and room numbers will be sent after registration.
Q11: How long is each session?
A: Each class session is approximately 90 minutes.
Q12: What is included in tuition?
A: Tuition covers:
All class materials and supplies
Snacks or cultural treats (where applicable)
One take-home item per session (e.g., language cards, mini-projects)
A final showcase or presentation on the last day
